    Getting started

How to record your screen online

Recording your screen online takes three steps: pick what to share, hit record, then trim and export - no software to install first.

    1. Pick what to share

Click Start recording above and choose a tab, window, or your entire screen. That permission prompt comes from your browser, not YoRecord - it looks the same on every site that requests screen capture.
    2. Toggle mic and webcam

Turn on microphone narration and, if you want your face in the corner, the webcam bubble. Both are optional and can be switched on or off right before you start.
    3. Record

A 3-2-1 countdown gives you a moment to get ready, then capture runs locally in the tab. Recordings are capped at 10 minutes each on the free tier.
    4. Trim, caption, export

Stop recording and the built-in editor opens automatically. Trim the clip, add zoom, generate AI subtitles if you want them, then export an MP4 or copy a share link - no account needed at any point.

    What you get for free

The free tier includes screen and webcam recording, a built-in editor, AI subtitles, and MP4 export - all with no account and no per-seat cost.

    Screen + webcam recording

Capture your screen and an optional webcam bubble together.

    Mic + tab audio

Narrate with your microphone, plus a shared tab's audio.

    AI subtitles (Whisper, opt-in)

Generate captions on click; audio goes to Groq's Whisper API only then.

    Trim + zoom editor

Cut clips and add zoom before you export - built in, free.

MP4 export (small watermark on free)

Standard MP4 export. Free exports carry a small watermark.

Share links (expire after 31 days)

A link you can send anywhere. Expires after 31 days.

    Why is the recorder browser-based?

Modern browsers can capture your screen natively, so recording, editing, and export all happen on your own device - nothing to install first.

Chrome and Edge ship native capture APIs, including getDisplayMedia and WebCodecs, so there is nothing to download before you start. Recording, editing, and export all run on your own machine, inside the browser tab. Your video only leaves your device in two cases: generating AI subtitles, which sends audio (not video) to Groq's Whisper API, and creating a share link, which uploads the rendered video. Because nothing needs installing, the recorder works on locked-down work laptops and Chromebooks where IT policy blocks new software. Most pages calling themselves an online screen recorder actually redirect you to a signup form or a native app download. The recorder above is the whole product.

Recording and editing stay on your device by default. Two actions send data out: generating AI subtitles (audio only, opt-in) and creating a share link (uploads the rendered video).

Which browsers does it work in?

Chrome and Edge fully support recording and export; Firefox mostly works but export is less reliable; Safari and mobile browsers are not supported.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is YoRecord really free?

Yes - recording, the editor, AI subtitles, MP4 export, and share links are all free. Free exports have a 10-minute cap per recording and a small watermark. No account is required for any of it.

Do I need to download or install anything?

No. YoRecord runs on browser APIs built into Chrome and Edge, so there's nothing to install and no extension to add. Open the page and you're ready to record.

Is there a recording time limit?

Yes, the free tier caps each recording at 10 minutes. If you need more, record multiple clips back to back and trim or join them in the editor.

Does it put a watermark on my video?

Yes, free exports carry a small watermark. That's the trade-off for a recorder that's otherwise free with no account and no per-seat cost.

Can I record my screen and webcam together?

Yes. Turn on the webcam toggle before you start and your camera appears as a bubble composited over the screen recording.

    Can I record audio?

Yes - narrate with your microphone, and if you share a browser tab with its audio enabled, that tab's sound is captured too.

Where does my recording go? Is it private?

Your recording stays on your device by default; nothing uploads automatically. It only leaves your browser if you generate AI subtitles (audio only, sent to Groq's Whisper API when you click generate) or create a share link, which uploads the rendered video. Share links expire after 31 days.

Does it work on a Chromebook or a locked-down work laptop?

Yes. Since there is nothing to install, the recorder works anywhere Chrome or Edge runs, including Chromebooks and locked-down work machines without admin rights.

Can I edit the recording afterwards?

Yes - the built-in editor lets you trim, zoom, and add captions before you export. You can also generate AI subtitles and export an MP4 when you are done.
